Regina Spektor videos

I downloaded Spektor's extended Begin to Hope album on iTunes this weekend and I cannot stop listening to it. Brilliant!

For your viewing/listening pleasure:

"Samson" Directed by stop-motion guru Peter Sluszka.

"Us" This one is still my favorite! Directed by Adria Petty.

"Better" Another one by Adria Petty. The 80s-inspired visuals are simple and fit the song well.

Here's the promo vid. for "On the Radio" filmed at the school her mom teaches at in Mt. Vernon, NY.

I went to college the same time as Spektor... She was at SUNY Purchase and I was at Manhattanville. It's strange we never bumped into each other. Purchase isn't THAT big! LOL. We probably would have become friends.

Those are absolutely amazing. For some reason, she physically puts me in mind of Tori Amos, but this is definitely more whimsical stuff than the majority of Tori's music.
Thanks for posting these!

I think the video directors try to make her look like Tori. Early 90s Tori, anyhow. The wavy hair, big red lips, especially in the "Samson" video where she's at the huge piano, it is very reminiscent of Tori's "Winter" video, except the visual perspective is black instead of white. "On the Radio" has echoes of "Winter" also, when Tori is holding hands with the children.

The thing that is so different about Spektor is that she is much more whimsical than Amos...the only video that I think really captured that is "Us," which is why it is one of my favorites. It would be really cool to see what would happen if she got paired up with a director that really got that aspect of her music.

I don't know if you've seen any clips of her live, but she is GREAT! Very spontaneous performances...she really is a joy to watch.

I agree that there is a conscious effort to Tori-fy Regina Spektor in that particular video...

I have never seen her live, but I will have to look on YouTube, or see if she is playing anywhere in my area. I loved those videos and am going to look for her cds when I have the money. "Us" was great - the whole concept of the "stop animation" style was fun to watch.
